After a series of unfortunate events, I got the bright idea to randomly up and move our family of 6 plus a dog from Florida to Arizona on a whim. It was kind of from a dream I had the night before that prompted me to wake up and say... eff it.. let's just go. What are we waiting for.. the sky to fall?
So we had to think about what vehicle will get us there and hotels to stay in.............. NO THANKS. I was thinking.. how about we look for a used RV on Craigslist.. just to seeeee......
But this particular RV was right down the road from us and we decided to "just check it out" since it was so close by, but it felt like a dream come true compared to these others we had spent the last two days driving to.
Then the logistics came into play. How do we get there? How do we afford it? How do we get out of here? What do we do once we are there? (Not necessarily in that order).
The amazing thing about Craigslist is that you can find pretty much anything you ever need on there. To include an impulse buy 1986 Chevy Allegro RV for $3300. Now keep in mind I'm leaving out the few that we drove some hefty distance to check out and decided to raise our price point from 2000 max to 5000 max (it really makes a difference in the quality of RV that you can get).
Odd thing is this guy selling it decided that he wasn't happy to sell it as it was and that he wanted to do some more work on it before he let it go. He also talked himself down from 3300 to 2800 without us saying a word. He said he didn't need the money (I need that pension plan). So it's been about a week or so and still no RV but not to fear because in this short amount of time the RV is getting in tip top shape all while we continue to settle our local affairs as far as getting out of dodge.
So not that you are interested in this story of how the RV came to be in our possession to begin with, but I expect our traveling days will be much more enthralling and someone, someday will want to see how it all got started.

So....According to my recollection, I remember it was MY bright idea to randomly "up and move our family" of 6 + 1 to AZ on a whim. I was working in the middle east a few weeks ago. The job was great, but the family really needed to be "complete" again. So, I decided to come home and start a new life and leave this old one behind. All the signs were there. Prior to my departure I researched RVs. I had to delicately present this idea to the wife. I know how she is about camping and anything doing with mosquitos, the outdoors, or road trips! After research, I came up with the idea of the motorhome. I am the proverbial "jack of all trades" and thought I could buy a fixer-upper. After presenting this idea one morning to Angi, she agreed/accepted and we went on the hunt. We saw a few and were more or less not happy after leaving each place. After looking at all the other RVs, we hit the last one on our list that happened to be right down the road. He said he wanted 3300 for it. At first glance, she was not as what we thought we wanted. But, taking the initial step inside, it was everything we wanted. She is a 1986 Chevy Allegro. She has a twin bed in the front that folds down from the ceiling, a couch that turns into a bed, a dining set that turns into a bed, a queen master bedroom, and another twin that comes from the ceiling in the back! More than enough to fit our family. Hard wood floors have been redone, new refrigerator, new toilet and much hard work that is still being done and that has to be done! The guy who sold it to us (for 2800), says he likes us and wanted to make sure we aren't getting "crap"...well, I would have thought it was "AS IS" but he doesn't agree. We really lucked out on this one. He is almost finished (changing out master cylinder and brake calipers tomorrow and finishing touches) then it will be ours. Angi wants to continue the remodel, and I have hesitantly agreed (opinion based on the colorful house in Chantilly, VA...ask later).Our travelling days are on the horizon now, and we are soon to depart and embark on a new adventure.
